Nuwara Eliya – The “Little England” of Sri Lanka
At over 1,800 meters above sea level, Nuwara Eliya is a peaceful town in Sri Lanka’s central highlands. Often known as “Little England,” the town still lives up to its name with British-style houses, rose gardens, and an iconic red-bricked post office. It’s famous for its cool weather, green hills, and colonial charm.
Surrounded by tea plantations and misty forests, Nuwara Eliya offers a refreshing break from the country’s usual tropical heat. Gregory Lake, in the center of town, is perfect for boat rides, cycling, or simply relaxing by the water. Nearby, you can visit beautiful waterfalls like Lover’s Leap, Ramboda Falls, Devon Falls, Lakshapana Falls, and St. Clair’s—or take a tour of a tea factory and enjoy a warm cup of fresh Ceylon tea with a breathtaking view.
One of the top attractions is Horton Plains National Park, where the hike to World’s End offers stunning views. The town also has a racecourse, strawberry farms, and the lovely Victoria Park, full of flowers and birdlife.
